A WELCOME FROM

Legacy is a word that is o昀琀en misunderstood.
It is sometimes associated with milestones,
recogni琀椀on or inheritance. In reality, legacy is quieter
and more demanding. It is not de昀椀ned by what is
accumulated, but by what endures. Not by visibility,
but by in昀氀uence. And not by short-term success,
but by the standards and values that con琀椀nue to
shape outcomes long a昀琀er circumstances change.
These re昀氀ec琀椀ons feel par琀椀cularly relevant as we introduce Edi琀椀on 18, centred on the theme
of Legacy, and at a 琀椀me when Blacktower marks its 40th anniversary. Longevity, whether
personal or professional, is never accidental. It is the result of consistency, judgement and an
ability to evolve without losing sight of what ma琀琀ers most.
Legacy is not something that is le昀琀 behind one day. It is built con琀椀nuously, through everyday
decisions and behaviours. It is revealed in how rela琀椀onships are sustained, how responsibility
is handled, and how principles are upheld when they are tested rather than celebrated.
Over the years, I have observed that the most meaningful legacies are rarely the most visible.
They are found in cultures that hold 昀椀rm under pressure, in long-standing rela琀椀onships built
on trust rather than transac琀椀on, and in organisa琀椀ons that con琀椀nue to adapt while remaining
true to their core purpose.
This edi琀椀on explores legacy in its broadest sense. The ar琀椀cles that follow look beyond
achievement to consider perspec琀椀ve, responsibility, mastery and con琀椀nuity. They re昀氀ect on
what it means to take the long view in a world increasingly focused on immediacy, and why
experience remains one of the most valuable assets any individual or organisa琀椀on can possess.
As you read through Edi琀椀on 18, I hope it encourages re昀氀ec琀椀on rather than nostalgia, and
inten琀椀on rather than sen琀椀mentality. Legacy is not about looking back. It is about understanding
what deserves to endure — and ac琀椀ng accordingly.
With warm regards,
